It all started with a thought...a simple prayerful thought that, with the current setup of my super busy schedule, God would just drop the man He kept for me at my doorstep. It seemed to me to be an outlandish request, one I didn’t think God would actually honor. However, not long after, that's what happened, figuratively speaking. I was at my dear friend’s potluck, when my soon to be sister-in-law , Vanessa, suggested her brother as a suitable bachelor and life mate.
The next day, I saw a message pop up in my inbox from her with her brother, Benjamin, added to it. Well that message led Benjamin and I to become Facebook friends and pen pals for about a year before we would meet in person. Little did we know that Vanessa's introductory message was in God's design and would later intertwine our lives in such a way that would allow us to sustain a long distance relationship for more than 3 years. Instead of God dropping the man He kept for me at my door, He dropped him in my inbox.
This is what you call a proper match up, with one of the best, matchmaker Vanessa Taylor... LOL. It all started with a message from my sister, Vanessa, stating “I had a revelation, I found your wife.” Shocked and confused, I had to ask her if she was crazy or something. Yet little did I know that she was right, someway, somehow, God placed this beautiful soul on my sister’s path. It was as if Audrey was sculpted, shaped, and prepared just for me.
Since the statement was so unusual, I decided to entertain my sister a bit and allow her to introduce us “OVER THE INTERNET”. How crazy is that! Yet, it was not until I met her in person, that I began to see what God had in store.
We first saw each other at my church. I was singing in the praise team and I saw him come into the church. When the service ended, he met me halfway to finally talk face-to-face for the first time. I was a bit nervous, but as we spoke, his smile, kindness and calm demeanor made me comfortable and we quickly planned our first date. My first impression of him was that he was handsome, friendly and charming. As we got to know each other more, my impressions later deepened to appreciate his thoughtful, loving, generous, intelligent, compassionate and honest spirit.
First of all, her photos are not a true reflection of her beauty. This girl was striking on that stage, praising the Lord with all her heart, as I walked into her church that Saturday. Yep, it all started in a church. She was wearing these super crazy dope blue shoes and her dark flowing hair took me by surprise. I was in awe of her beauty. From then on, it was the beginning of a beautiful courtship. Did I say we dated “OVER THE INTERNET”!!! Skype and Whatsapp became our best friends... lol.
All I know is that I was surprised and shocked. After the pastor called Benjamin to sing, I took my phone out to record him, thinking nothing more of the impromptu song request. Then my heart began to race as Benjamin stopped the song to share his testimony that included meeting me. As he made his way down the aisle, to the back of the church where I was seated, I stopped recording and slowly brought my phone down to my lap as I realized that something was about to go down. Of course I said yes! It really didn't click that Benjamin's proposal was planned until I saw my family and friends surrounding us in support. That's when I couldn't hold back the tears any longer.
To maintain a long distance relationship like ours, it takes commitment, resilience, patience, perseverance, a sense of humor and great conversations. It leaves no room to be boring ...okay maybe sometimes...lol. He compliments me in many ways and I am excited to embark on this journey with him and experience God’s plan for us as a couple.
After 2 years of courting, multiple trips across the Atlantic, and clear confirmations from God, it was time to take the plunge and make her my wife. However, what was supposed to be a simple private proposal was inspired by God to be a public one at her beloved church. A nerve racking experience it was to surprise her and publicly declare my love for her, but with the help of my sister and brother-in-law, Audrey’s parents, sister as well as her friends and pastors, I sang my heart out to her, went down on one knee and asked her to marry me.
She said yes y’all!...lol. So here we are, with you as our witnesses, ready to commit to each other until death do us part. One God… One Spirit… United in Love as One.
